We deliver a wide range of locally led programs that span humanitarian response, sustainable development, and peacebuilding. Our work is implemented through eight Somali NGOs with deep roots in their communities and a long history of serving in complex, high-risk, and underserved areas.
Through coordinated programming, the consortium addresses both immediate needs and structural challenges. Projects range from emergency WASH services and food security support to civic dialogue, education, and climate resilience. Each intervention is informed by community priorities and executed with the leadership of Somali actors who understand the context, navigate the risks, and build trust with the people they serve.
This section highlights the core sectors in which NEXUS and its members work—sectors that reflect not only the needs of today, but the systems required for long-term recovery and locally owned development across Somalia and Somaliland.
We provide access to safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene awareness—especially in crisis-affected communities and displacement camps vulnerable to waterborne diseases.
We support families and youth through agricultural inputs, vocational training, small business grants, and market linkages to enhance economic resilience and reduce food insecurity.
We strengthen social cohesion and inclusive governance by supporting local peace dialogues, civic engagement forums, and partnerships with community and traditional leaders.
We promote safe, inclusive education and child protection services, including access to learning, case management, psychosocial support, and prevention of violence and exploitation.
We build community capacity to anticipate, respond to, and adapt to climate shocks through nature-based solutions, early warning systems, and disaster risk reduction tools.
We advance gender-responsive programming that supports women’s leadership, addresses GBV, and ensures the participation of marginalized groups in all phases of project design and delivery.
