It was a highly engaging discussion where we explored synergies between SoDMA and Nexus to strengthen disaster preparedness, resilience, and response in Somalia.
During the meeting, Mr. Abdulle stated that SoDMA is hoping to establish a new “SoDMA–NGO Coordination Office room,” a dedicated space where NGOs can come together, collaborate, and even work free of charge within SoDMA. This initiative aims to strengthen cooperation, enhance coordination, and ensure that local actors play a central role in disaster management.
We focused on how Nexus’ locally led approach can complement SoDMA’s national mandate by; •Partnering with local NGOs already rooted in communities •Working hand-in-hand with local, regional, and national governments • Mobilising and empowering local communities at the frontline of crises.
Together, we can build stronger partnerships, drive localized solutions, and achieve lasting impact for Somali communities facing disasters and climate shock.
