Join Nexus Consortium

The Nexus Consortium Somalia unites a diverse network of national and local organizations dedicated to advancing localization, inclusion, and collective impact across humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding sectors in Somalia and Somaliland. The Consortium serves as a collaborative platform where Somali civil society actors, community-based organizations, and local institutions come together to design and implement solutions that are contextually grounded, community-driven, and nationally owned.

Opening membership represents an important milestone in the Consortium’s evolution. It reflects our continued commitment to expanding Somali-led partnerships and ensuring that civil society organizations at the forefront of community action are meaningfully represented in national coordination, programming, and policy dialogue. Through this initiative, Nexus aims to deepen collaboration, promote learning, and strengthen the institutional capacity of organizations that share its mission and vision.

Membership provides an opportunity to join a vibrant and principled collective working toward transformative change in Somalia and Somaliland. It connects organizations that believe in:

  • Localization – ensuring that decisions, resources, and leadership are driven by local actors who understand community priorities.

  • Inclusion and Equity – promoting gender balance, disability inclusion, and representation of marginalized or under-represented groups.

  • Collaboration and Shared Learning – fostering partnerships that encourage innovation, joint programming, and pooled resources.

  • Accountability and Integrity – upholding transparency, ethical conduct, and responsible governance in all consortium engagements.

In this phase of opening membership, Nexus extends a special invitation to women-led and disability-led organizations. These groups play a critical role in promoting equality, social justice, and resilience in Somali communities. Their participation strengthens the diversity, responsiveness, and legitimacy of the Consortium, while reinforcing the shared mission of achieving sustainable, community-driven change.

Joining Nexus is not merely a formal affiliation — it is a commitment to a collective journey toward a more inclusive, accountable, and locally empowered future for Somalia and Somaliland. Together, members amplify local voices, influence policy, and contribute to the realization of lasting peace and development under Somali leadership.

“Gacmo wadajir bay wax ku gooyaan” — Together, hands cut through anything.

Application Process

Organizations interested in joining the Nexus Consortium Somalia are invited to follow a structured and transparent application process designed to ensure fairness, credibility, and alignment with Nexus principles. The process is coordinated by the Nexus Secretariat and overseen by the Membership Subcommittee of the Board of Directors.

To begin, prospective members are required to complete the online membership application form accessible through the official Nexus platform. The form captures essential information about the organization’s identity, governance, thematic focus, operational experience, and its commitment to Nexus’s values of localization, inclusion, and joint programming.

As part of the submission, applicants must upload a set of supporting documents that demonstrate institutional legitimacy, accountability, and operational capacity. These include:

  • Valid Registration Certificate – confirming legal registration as a national or local non-profit organization in Somalia or Somaliland.

  • Most Recent Narrative and Financial Reports – evidencing transparency, good governance, and effective program delivery.

  • List of Board Members and Key Staff – providing details on leadership structure, gender balance, and inclusion of persons with disabilities where applicable.

  • Organizational Profile and/or Strategic Plan (if available) – outlining the organization’s vision, mission, strategic priorities, and operational footprint.

  • Two Reference Letters from Partners – issued by credible institutions such as INGOs, UN agencies, donors, or peer civil society organizations attesting to the applicant’s performance, reliability, and collaboration history.

Once submitted, all applications undergo a comprehensive review by the Nexus Secretariat, which verifies the completeness of documentation and the organization’s adherence to the eligibility criteria. The Membership Subcommittee then conducts a qualitative assessment based on relevance, experience, inclusion, and alignment with Nexus’s strategic priorities.

Recommendations are forwarded to the Nexus Board of Directors, which makes the final determination. Admission into the consortium is granted only upon receiving a majority vote of approval from the Board.

Organizations that are successfully admitted will receive a formal notification of acceptance, followed by a structured onboarding and orientation program. This induction familiarizes new members with Nexus governance systems, operating principles, collaborative frameworks, and upcoming initiatives, ensuring they are fully integrated into the consortium’s collective processes and activities.
